Why is it supercontinents becomes 7 continents

 

The known supercontinent Pangaea is now 7 is because of Earthquakes. Earthquakes cause landmasses or tectonic plates to move. Many things cause earthquakes and one is volcanic eruptions. It is believed that volcanic activity contributes a lot to the mass extinction around 66 million years ago. These volcanic eruptions also caused new plates to be formed, separated and combined through Earthquakes.
